  • To help ALL students develop to their maximum potential in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.
  • To facilitate students in developing positive self-awareness, a positive attitude and motivation while promoting a vision for high expectations, success and a priority of putting students first.
Classroom Guidance
The role of the school counselor is to promote academic/educational development, personal/social development, and career awareness. Throughout the school year, classroom guidance lessons will be conducted in every classroom according to these three domains. The objectives of the lessons are based on the curriculum established by Prince William County Schools.

The high school course catalog for the 2012–13 school year is now available online. The catalog provides information about available courses and support services, and can serve as a resource throughout the school year.

As soon as the paper copies arrive in the school, I will be visiting the 8th grade classes to introduce the catalog to the students. Look for your students copy to come home in a few weeks!

The catalog can be accessed on the School Division’s Web site at www.pwcs.edu. Select the drop-down menu under “Students,” then choose “High School Course Catalog", or you can find it on this webpage under Files.

High School Specialty Program Application Information
New this year for students applying to Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) high school specialty programs is an easy-to-use online application. Specialty programs offer a wide variety of additional course options and rigor embedded within the programs. Students residing in Prince William County on January 1 must submit the required application form by February 15 to be considered for admission to a specialty program.

The applicant can identify more than one specialty program for which to be considered, but the choices need to be indicated in order of preference.

If applicants change their minds on the order of preference for their program choices before the registration deadline of February 15, the application will need to be resubmitted and the most recent application submitted will be considered. Each application receives a time/date stamp.

Apply for specialty programs at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PWCS_SPECIALTY_HS_APP.

GENERAL APPLICATION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2012

Fine and Performing Arts applications are due on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

For current Prince William County School students, your completion of this application grants permission to review your semester report card. All non-PWCS students will need to forward a copy of their semester report card to Specialty Program Coordinator(s) at the requested school(s).

If you are a transfer student, remember that you will need to complete and submit the required transfer form. This form is available at any Prince William County School.

Transportation request forms will be included in Specialty Program acceptance letters. They must be returned no later than March 30, 2012.
